Many places in coastal Prakasam district such as Ongole, Chirala, Vetapalem and Chinaganjam have been witnessing heavy downpours since Monday morning. District collector Sujatha Sharma asked the revenue staff to be in readiness to evacuate those in low lying areas at short notice. In Kavali, the sea made inroads into land up upto 20 meters. Kadapa and Nellore districts are also experiencing moderate to heavy rainfall since 48 hours. Railway Koduru in Kadapa recorded 22.4 centrimeters of rainfall. Tides up to five metre in height and squally winds were seen in Vadrevu port area. However, heavey rains almost smashed the business of Crackers and small traders in this diwali season. Cracker sales took a heavy beating with heavy rains continuing in several districts. Traders have reported less than normal sales with Diwali only hours away.
