Japan Built Tunnels for Adorable Turtles Featured

They may have tough body, but Japan's turtles no match to the railway system. As bad luck would have it, these beloved amphibians are getting trapped in railway lines while crossing the tracks. More over there is a lot of Turtle life loss because of being crushed between switch points.

A Japanese daily newspaper Asahi Shimbun, noted that turtles have caused 13 train disruptions between 2002 and 2014 in kyoto and Nara.Though the incidents may be few, they can be easily averted with a bit of ingenuity. Understanding the problem a solution is discovered by the West Japan Railway Company and the Suma Aqualife Park to save the little ones. They set U-shaped lanes under the existing tracks just for turtles. The animals now can cross the tracks without getting stuck or hit by trains.

This scheme bagged good Results with saving 10 precious turtle lives. Apart from this as a precaution the West Japan Railway Company is also monitoring the lanes monthly to sent the trapped turtles to Suma aquarium. While the system may not be enough to save all the turtles but at least some of them escaped accidents and they are safe now.
